For several of the ten days I was painting at Mill Pond a pointing dog field trial was being held on the property, but because of the size of the place, our paths did not cross until the third day of the trial when I was set up on the road to the Duck Pond working on this painting and groups of riders on horseback began circling by with their English pointers in tow. I was glad for the occasional company, they enjoyed watching the progress of this painting and my nine year old West-Highland terrier, Albert, certainly enjoyed seeing other dogs and took off at one point after them, chasing them for a few hundred yards until my angry yelling stopped him. He wanted to run with the big dogs.
The weather that day was threatening ahead of a cold front, but rain held off until I completed this painting, my truck was packed and then the heavens opened up with wind driven rain. This painting catches something of a sense of foreboding.
